The ASERT Resource Center serves as Pennsylvania’s leading source for up-to-date and accurate information and resources for individuals with autism, their families, the community and the professionals who support them. Contact the ASERT resource center to speak with a resource specialist who can help you learn how to discover and access resources in Pennsylvania. The resource center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

21 and Able is an initiative that is working to create a roadmap for youth with disabilities who are transitioning out of the education and supportive services system to work, live independently, and participate actively in their communities to the extent possible for each individual.

This manual, developed by the Rochester Institute of Technology, in conjunction with other up and coming higher learning institutes, and funded by the Autism Speaks Family Services Community Grant, is designed to help colleges and universities prepare to support individuals with autism attending college and help them succeed.

This webpage from the Interactive Autism Network (IAN) focuses on what happens when someone with autism leaves school and makes the transition to adult services, college, work, job training or new living situations. There are a variety of articles on topics from transitioning out of high school, family and personal relationships, housing and jobs. IAN is a partnership with the Kennedy Krieger Institute whose goal is to facilitate research that will lead to advancements in understanding and treating autism spectrum disorder.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has implemented the Uniform Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria for Teachers for use across the state of Virginia. The purpose of these standards is to collect data to document teacher performance based on clearly defined expectations. However, the VDOE recognizes that the Uniform Performance Standards may not be the most useful tool for all teachers in all situations. Thus, VCU-ACE has developed the Autism Spectrum Disorder Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria to assist administrators in their evaluation of the performance of teachers who support students with ASD in public schools. Although these resources were developed for use in Virginia, they may be a helpful starting point for teachers and other school professionals in Pennsylvania.
